At the CLC of ME, we have a number of learning opportunities for teachers; Teacher Prep workshops (associated with a student mission), NASA Educator workshops, and CLC Professional Development courses. CLC Professional Development

What does "inquiry" really mean? How can I organize my teaching materials and assessment materials to demonstrate how I'm helping my students meet the MLR? What are some new ways I can teach old curriculum using "space" as an attention-grabber for my students?

These are the types of the questions we will address in a wide variety of professional development workshops at the Challenger Learning Center. As former classroom teachers ourselves, we know what tools you need to make your life a little easier in the classroom and that's one of our goals. So contact the Center or watch our web calendar for these PD opportunities. CEU's will be offered for nearly all of our offerings.

Teacher workshops

NASA Educator Resources

The purpose of the NASA Educator Resource Center (ERC) located within the Challenger Learning Center is to help teachers learn about and use NASA's educational resources. Personnel at the ERC work with teachers to find out what they need and to share NASA's expertise. The ERC will provide educators with demonstrations of educational technologies such as NASA educational Web sites and NASA Television. The ERC provides inservice and preservice training utilizing NASA instructional products. Educators also have the opportunity to preview, copy, and receive NASA instructional products.

Curriculum Coordinators workshop

A one day (date TBA) workshop is being planned for Curriculum Coordinators throughout Maine. As the Challenger Learning Center of Maine makes plans for future teacher workshops, we'd like to gather together all of the ideas and needs of our state's curriculum professionals to help us tailor our offerings to teachers. Assessment strategies, inquiry based learning, use of technology, materials matched to the MLR's-just let us know what you think your teachers need, and we'll do the work for you. Not only are we a Center for space simulation experiences for middle schools students, but we're a developing resource for professional development.
